Terror

(written for the Center for New Americans fundraiser)

Little, spastic girls
shouldn’t walk alone
in the autumn darkness
to library programs
designed to make them
pass urine into library floors
or fear things that go bump
in the night.

And afterward said little girl
definitely shouldn’t spend
the rest of the evening
watching Supernatural
as she attempts to write
the great American novel
in 30 days.
